"Pitchfork, and music sites like it, still make up a minority, don't you realize? "
- it's all relative. in the e-realm of musical discussion, pitchfork might be the most prevalent publication. i mean, their Facebook page has 1,000,000 followers. Sput's FB has less than 6000.

- the topic of discussion here is whether or not music sites just feed off each other's hype, or if critics think independently. when so many year-end lists are eerily similar, it sorta kinda defeats the purpose. then again, I don't care for year-end lists as anything besides a virtual yearbook, so idk why i'm hung up on this.

"currently shocked your taste in people is on par with your taste in music"

I mean I don't like you so I think my taste in people is alright

@johnny

I understand, but critics are bound to have similar albums they like. The lists are not really EXACTLY the same. Lesser known artists don't get as much attention, but that's how any type of media works until those artists become more popular. Music sites are just websites and websites need viewers and therefore they will review and rank albums that people know.

My point being is that idk if they just feed off each other's hype or just mostly rank/review the same albums because those are the ones that will bring them views

i understand too. i'm not scratching my head thinking "what gives?" I'm sorta just addressing the "it-is-what-it-is"ness of it.

for me, what i like seeing in year-end lists is sorta just a summing up of "this is what we talked about" rather than any sort of gauge of what the best albums were. i'll probably look at the 2015 sput list and think, "yeah, that was sput in 2015 alright" and there might be a tear in my eye : ' ]

It's a self perpetuating machine dudes, investment from the labels to hawk the latest shite. The zeitgeist as a movement born from youth rebellion no longer exists so here we all are lapping up this asinine drivel.
