the problem with that is the same problem I had with swimming pools. hes ostensibly making anti-drinking songs by making songs everyone drinks to.

its like, if you dont want to abuse your power, maybe dont make a song bragging about fucking her just so you can talk about how enlightened you are and aware of your flaws?

also the ends dont justify the means, revenge is a stupid concept and doesn't justify anything except to hypocrites

So, he shouldn't write songs about personal experiences?

But doesn't he realize that what he is doing is wrong? Humans aren't just one facet, you know? They make mistakes, they learn from them and everything. And this whole album is the journey of exactly this. Him making mistakes and learning from them.

Also, Swimming Pools lyrics were completely against alcohol, you can blame the public for not realizing this shit. Don't blame him.

It's part of the albums storyline - "abusing my power full of resentment". It's not fucking bragging about boning a girl, but how easy it is to go for shallow earthly pleasures and vengeanceful acts when you have the easy access for it. Later on the album he understands that he'd rather use his power for good..

Swimming Pools is actually pretty fucking genius marketing-wise, in how he got tons of people listening and partying to an anti-drinking song, lol

@ Lambs Completely disagree on Swimming Pools, but I do believe people make Kendrick out to be a creative genius when, in the grand scheme of things, the ideas he's expressing aren't quite as profound, unique or complex as most seem to think. At least imo

Still love him, though

Kendrick can write whatever he wants to, to be fair. It is his music after all...

yeah he can write about whatever, but you respecting him for writing something so douchey is another matter entirely.

i have this at a 3.5 cuz i dont rerate albums until i hear the whole thing again (usually), and because you cant even 1 or 1.5 this album (the site wont let you) so i dont care about rating this artificially overrated bs

I'm not respecting him at all. Do you ever listen to music with some degree of detachment?

if you think theres nothing wrong about writing 48 bars in intricate detail about fucking some guys girl, who is in prison, and making the whole song a wordplay about pussy/prison, then go ahead

can we stop acting like he just mentioned it one rhyme or so, and then apologized for making a mistake and 'abusing his power'? he (and probably all of you) seem to actually think theres nothing wrong with what he did 'cuz he killed his friend'. most people think that way, its sad.

the song is a petty revenge song, its not the worst thing in the world, but it is what it is, and what it isn't is what yall make it out to be (and this album in general) some profound artistic shit from the mind of a genius who is capable of searching his soul with no bias blah blah blah

No it's because you're exaggerating the problem by referring to rape and torture instead which is entirely unnecessary and misses the point. And tbh, it's better than a lot of braggadocious hip hop

of course im exaggerating, its the principle.

you dont act like you regret doing something by making a public song bragging about ostensibly bad behavior. the irony in that is ridiculous.

most hip hop is done in jest, that track is just bitter and people give it a pass cuz its really catchy

Well that's just him talking about his point of view I'm the process. You're making a huge deal out of it and even if your point is somewhat valid... Ok, cool? Spare the rant

The song isn't bragging about anything, it's more of a confession, that he did fucking idiotic stuff because he could as he became famous..

Also, I think the story in that song is fictional since Kendrick's been with his girlfriend for almost 10 years now if I remember correctly (and they're getting married this year, doesn't fit the picture, eh?)
