Nothing really wrong with the middle four or five songs, they're enjoyable enough

As usual for Dream Theater, the solos are pretty much the only thing I enjoy about this.

BC&SL is the only album that I've thoroughly enjoyed since SDOIT and ToT.

Also, how in the fuck does this and Systematic Chaos have a higher average than FII?

They're around the same for me, all have a few great songs, some good or decent ones, and three or four bad ones

BC&SL has some of their best moments from the past ten years, but A Rite of Passage is awful, and The Shattered Fortress is the worst way they could have ended their "twelve-step suite" in my opinion. I mean, the spirit of bringing back elements from previous parts of the suite was certainly there, but the transitions are downright terrible.

I remember being disappointed when The Shattered Fortress came out too, I was hoping for something new to add to the series and not a 12 minute rehashing of all the themes all together

and yeah a rite of passage is god awful with those lyrics

Too bad all of the decent songs on that album are sabotaged by Portnoy's metal vocals.

Day after day

And night after night

Replaying the events

Did they ever see the red light?

A Nightmare to Remember has its share of excellent ideas, although having coherence issues as well, but that perfectly laughable Portnoy-growling part is certainly one of the most horrendous things they have ever recorded.

Looking Glass's pre-chorus/chorus section is one of the only genuinely good part of this album.
