In all fairness, Understanding Decay is one of their best tracks. I don't know man, I'll compare it to Miss Machine - the latter is easily more technical, has a wider tonal palette (I don't see anything rivalling Phone Home on here), greater dynamic contrasts, and it feels just that much more ferocious. This record, on the other hand, feels like a band that has come into its own and has slipped into a comfortable groove that they already established on Option Paralysis. There's nothing on here that they didn't do (or didn't do better) on their last record. Plus, seriously, Parasitic Twins. Enough said. There are some brilliant tracks on here, but as a whole it just feels like standard fare Dillinger.
cant disagree enough with this. i can understand why you feel that way but i find this to be its own beast instead of a MM rehash. they improved the hell out of their accessible tracks, t/t and nothings funny being probably the best theyve ever written (and i love the shit out of milk lizard). they developed their heavier songs in completely different ways than the past (when i lost my bet, the threat posed, and crossburner in particular have structures theyve never tried before). and the times they do experiment on here is like a much more fulfilling IW aka paranoia shields and the end of magic which is probably the best heavy/melodic section theyve ever done.
and personally i fucking love the production. its way better than OP's overly polished clean sound imo. plus quality wise its consistent the whole way through unlike OP that has a few skippable tracks in the second half. also i think the highs on this are better than the highs on OP (dunno about MM though)
