nepenthe has some cool melodies but its directionless and there's too much time where nothing is going on but axe pitter pattying on his drums

I don't get the whole directionless argument. It's not meant to be heading anywhere, it's already where it needs to be. It's all about the atmosphere in that song.

doesn't do anything for me atmospherically. its just annoying. quiet drums, then annoying guitar. i'm sitting there fiddling with my volume knob the whole song

i thought i had a bad rip but i actually bought the cd just to be sure and i have the same problem. i've listened in a bunch of diff scenarios on a bunch of diff equipment. i don't think i've listened on nice headphones though tbh. i bet that would help but i want something that sounds good everywhere

The new songs solo sounds very DT-esque. That was actually one of the first things I thought about when I first listened to it and I'm just gonna go out and say that.

cusp was great. i kinda wish the vocal melodies in the verses were more interesting but they'll probably grow on me.



back to jamming famine...i love that flute breakdown part. might have to bump this back up to a 3 when its all said and done

Hmm I can agree with the vocal melodies being perhaps a bit bland, but opeth never release their best as singles (Grand Conjuration, Burden, Porcelain Heart)
