Wow, you guys have been busy today.

All Delighted People is seriously amazing, a must have for any Sufjan fan. The Owl and the Tanager is probably the creepiest song he has ever written.

Lol clearly we weren't *actually* all that busy because we had the time to fill three pages in this thread.

Seeing Sufjan in a little over a month, going back over his discography, I forgot how good this was.

What do you think Impossible Soul is about?

It sounds like a struggle with his sexuality and keeping his relationship with some girl.

Like the gender specific words strongly stand out and lines like "trying to be something that I wasn't at all" add to it. In the first part he is so confused.

Then the second part with the "stupid man in the window" make me think of a guy distracting him from the relationship. Having him reevaluate what he likes.

In the third part, he kind of accepts it? Goes with the guy. Saying it's a long life and that he should roll with it and maybe it is possible to be happy.

And finally the third part is him talking to the girl again? "I never meant to cause you pain." he says to her and then "I gotta tell you 'Boy, we made such a mess together.'" to the guy.

Anyway, could be taken a lot of other ways I'm sure.

Greatest songs [4]

nah, some clunkers on this one.

The middle of the album is an almighty drag (GRGR to Vesuvius) and that last tune needs choppin' into good and bad sections because taken as a single entity it blows

Part III in particular is too damn long/repetitive and is annoying as hell

Parts II and IV sound like independent songs and really good ones I'd actually listen to regularly if I didn't have to plough through the eight friggin' minutes of relentless cheerleader crap in part III
