Good News is pretty overhated honestly, We Were Dead is also solid

I just want to be right on first listen once in my fucking life
Is that too much to ask??????????????

I prefer we were dead because its more consistently good and spitting venom even rivals the highlights of their first three albums, but good news has plenty of gems despite having its fair share of duds
Also this is absolutely their magnum opus for me, which says a lot considering how fucking good LCW and long drive are

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
This and LCW are my top 2 albums ever. Too much Modest Mouse love. My objectivity went from 80% to 63 :/

I love the way they used 3 inch horses as like a 15 second interlude at the end of a different city so much
I DONT KNOW BUT IVE BEEN TOLD YOU NEVER DIE AND YOU NEVER GROW OLD

You should always keep an open mind about something for the first several listens (unless it's clearly trash).

So Built to Spill? got it
|

"really, these are you two favorite albums of all time now? not bad choices, but damn that was quick"
LCW has been roasting for a while now. This might be a bit quick yeahh.
Idk Remain In Light and VU's first two are still realllllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyy goooooood. But those albums are a bit harder to just sit down and listen to like Moon and LCW

if that's what you think, then sure
usually it only takes me a listen or two to tell the difference between broadly "good/not good", anything more specific than that can change a lot

The thing is, I can always tell something is probably good, I just usually don't like it on first listen. I'm weird like that.

Not really there's plenty of music like that for me. It just depends how much time you give something sometimes

i think a lot of people can appreciate // see some value in something on first listen before they truly enjoy it

That's true, though I don't think I've ever gone from actively disliking something to liking it. I have gone the other way though, but pretty rarely.

| |
i've done both. talk talk's laughing stock was about a 2-2.5 for me on first listen until it became one of my favorite albums ever when i came back to it a few years later
|
| |
Almost all my favorite albums were growers
Remain in Light was a 2.5 at first
Like Clockwork and In Rainbows were both albums I tried to get into and literally hated for years.
Even LCW felt mediocre at first I just never talked about it much

| |
The entirety of Lives is probably my favorite thing from them lyrically

This and Good News are very personal to me
The stretch of tracks after Stars are some of their best
|
| |
True but I kind of would like a reshuffling tbh
still great tho. it's just Lives and Life Like Weeds would be a great follow up to Stars.

Depends, I love how Stars dramatically exits and collapses into the reserved Dogs.
