So I know that .3 is a petty difference between ratings, but what makes this album stronger than Alien? I've been working my way through both of these the past two days and haven't really come up with a clear opinion on whether one is overall stronger than the other.

Oh yeah you can definitely feel the desperation of his situation at the time on City I agree with that. It's rawer and more emotional where I think Alien is a bit more polished and precise.
At least we're all agreed both are incredible albums.

Yeah in the mid section of detox especially Dev really bares his soul, that part is really moving (weird to say given how heavy it is). I prefer city by quite a way but am getting more into alien; imperial, shitstorm and love are amazing tracks. Alien is still an incredible album but city would be in like my top 10 ever easily

I'm so glad Devin found happiness in life nowadays but I do miss that raw energy and honesty of his old music. We need someone to pick up the torch!

He's still writing great stuff, from what he's said his new album sounds like it's going to be great!
If you haven't heard of him, there is a guy called David Maxim Micic that writes in a very similar style to Devin (although much more like his solo stuff than SYL). You should check out his albums Bilo 3 and ECO.
