I don't actually dislike Dev's vocals but in the same way as mid period Anathema or Porcupine Tree they just sound a bit pompous at times, 'Ocean Machine' is the one I know in full the most and yeah, the vocals have that quality throughout.
If someone said they couldn't get on board with them I'd totally know why - despite being strong his singing tone is a bit self serious, to the point of almost being comical in places.

Idk man even though that's a fair enough point of view I feel like you're kinda misreading the guy, I mean he's definitely one of the least self-serious musicians out there. Ocean machine is probably his most sincere and solemn album and still contains a good deal of subtle piss-take. His sense of humour and self-awareness was always the final touch of magic that wrapped everything together for me and brought his haughty compositions back down to Earth, transformed his oftentimes straight-up odd/bad lyrics into something witty and meta, and just generally gave an extra layer of intelligence to his work. This is why I often see criticisms of his music being theatrical, melodramatic (which it 100% is in a way) etc. as pretty surface level and missing the point slightly (not that you made that criticism).

At some point I'll delve a bit deeper into his discog, quite likely I don't pick up on all the subtleties - he's alright with me anyway, I was just trying to complete that hat trick.

Haha well congrats, but yeah definitely do, he's an incredibly complex character and has covered so much ground there's almost certain to be something you'd love, possibly Casualties of Cool? (I don't know your taste well enough but that was a winner on this site - kind of ambient haunting country with dual male/female vocals). Also he's usually pretty entertaining to watch in interviews and they give a bit more of a view into his psyche, even though what he's saying most of the time doesn't make a lot of sense to anyone except himself

I always thought Dev was a bit of a joke watching him discussed on this site. When I actually dug into his stuff I was really impressed with him as a musician and vocalist. I find his projects pretty hit or miss though.
