my immediate reaction is that, not that I want this of course, Ghosteen would function extremely well as a closer for the second half of the discography. I mean the presiding style is of course Push the Sky Away and Skeleton Tree's, but it's mixed in with the instrumentation and Cave falsetto from The Boatman's Call and No More Shall We Part pretty heavily. there's even flashes of The Good Son and the softer songs from Henry's Dream et al in there - unless he abruptly drops another post-punk album on us, Ghosteen is probably the best summation you could hope for

"Agree but also it isn't that huge a stretch in the scheme of the album"
yes it is, over 20 minutes since it includes the title track
it's not a huge issue though, i'm an ambient slut so nick cave going ambient pop audiobook was always gonna work for me

The new album is great but not as good as this or his classic albums.

Maybe. I've been listening non-stop since they started streaming it.

honestly its hard to place this new album with his others.. the "songs" feel more like movements. definitely mood music.

think it's close to outstanding have to say, top four Cave for me I'm predicting - but I was never into his bluesy and fire n' brimstone stuff as much
plus I rate the Dirty Three albums higher than his stuff a lot of the time too

There're lots of fantastic songs and albums from the '80s and '90s by him & the Bad Seeds, but honestly by now my favorite era of theirs overall is the past two decades. Even though Nocturama and Dig Lazarus Dig are two of my least favorites, they're solid and everything else has been stellar. I tend to prefer the more ballady stuff these days, generally. The Mercy Seat is obviously like top 5 best songs he's done though.

Very nice first listen. This is only my second album of them after The Firsborn Is Dead.
It seems like the right choice to check exactly this album out, I really like the ambient and electronic sounds that add a lot to the atmosphere. Great lyrics too.
It's one of those albums that even will get better with every listen I'm sure. It's already very amazing

My favorite song on this now was my least favorite the first time I heard the album. Conversely one of my favorites initially gets skipped every time.
The former? Distant Sky. The latter? I Need You.
