I missed the kind of giddy anticipation I got back in 09 and again in 17 when a new Brand New album was mysteriously dropping

So many people were disappointed by this upon release. But the real ones knew.

there's always an anti-jerk wave with stuff that is super popular but yes it definitely wasn't a typical sput flavor of the week

First time jamming this in particular. I v much thought Brand New was extremely boring for a long while and felt like something was passing me over. This is definitely the best of BM I've heard as of recently. Surprisingly more gritty and has more controlled-chaos than what I've this far heard from them

This album's reputation is clearly a case of "the wrong people heard it". It was written for the Albini 90s noise rock heads who knew Jesus Lizard and Unwound, not the Taking Back Sunday and Good Charlotte fans whose favorite album is Your Favorite Weapon.

I'm not going to sift through 67 pages to see if this has been said before, but I can't be the only one who thinks this. At The Bottom sounds a lot like a Modest Mouse song, even with Isaac Brock vocal inflections

Back when At The Bottom was released as a single, the Modest Mouse vocal twang dominated a lot of the discussion to the point that people almost missed that it was a banger.

I actually agree it's low to mid tier here, too much top shelf material and tracks that often get overlooked for whatever reason (In a Jar, You Stole). At the Bottom is probably 7th or 8th, but I still enjoy it.
