In retrospect, I don't get the Scott Walker comparisons at all. It makes more sense with Outside, which was his and Eno's take on what a new Scott album would sound like -- have in mind Tilt wasn't out yet.

For me it's something like:

1. Blackstar - Amazing song all around 5/5

2. Lazarus - Brings the hardest feels, at least for me 5/5

3. I Can’t Give Everything Away - Second most feels 5/5

4. Girl Loves Me - That rhythm though 4.5/5

5. Dollar Days - 4/5

6. Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime) - 4/5

7. ’Tis A Pity She Was A Whore - Just doesn't do much for me 3.5/5

It's the only happy/energetic song on the album really.

I think I just prefer the depressing stuff here; one of the album's biggest thematic appeals to me (other than the music/songs themselves) is how so much of this hints at his death.

Have you heard the original versions of Sue and/or Whore, Sowing?

Personally prefer the original Sue over the Blackstar version. A whole lot more menacing and dramatic.

I'm not aware of anything other than what's on this album. Tbh I'm not a well-versed Bowie fan at all. I've heard all his famous hits obviously, but the only full albums I've digested are this and Space Oddity.

I may get into his discog at some point but it's intimidatingly long for someone like me who likes to focus exclusively on new releases.

Anyhow, if you want to point me in the direction of some of these "originals" I'd be happy to test them out.

remove sue, blackstar, and 'tis a pity and add like 2 or 3 great songs and this thing would be an easy 4

I also really like Girl Loves Me, Bowie brings out the sass on that one.

Thing is, I know that this album has a decade-defining song somewhere. Just can't make up my mind as to which one.
