It's relevant because you are caring about what people listen to and rank as their favorite
Rank whatever you want as your favorite, stop caring about them
Go into music journalism if you're so offended by it

Loveless has fair points, despite maybe not articulating them with grace.

Replace 'Butthurt' with simply trying to have an honest discussion about the state of the music industry. I'll be the first to admit that I come off as fairly blunt however.
In this instance I'm only talking about those that call themselves music critics, not what the general public opinion is. Pitchfork for example, which most review websites seem to be modeled after, is owned by Conde Nast. Conde Nast is a giant mass media company, and their sole agenda isn't to discover great music acts, but solely to make money like any other business. And if I remember correctly Conde Nast's actual reasoning for recently purchasing Pitchfork was to obtain it's young male demographic audience. Go figure.
Basically what I am saying is you should take anyone who calls themselves a professional music critic along with any of these best of year lists with a grain of salt because revenue always takes precedence over quality music.

i dig the basic idea behind sputnik in that pretty much anyone can log on and review whatever they want. but, reviewers do tend towards stuff that other sites are hyping. nothing wrong with covering big releases, but sput could have a much better niche coverage

Spot on Johnny. There is so much good music out there that just never sees the light of day. I would love it if critics were more focused on introducing new music to audiences instead of featuring all the same artists. The main reason why I use this website is that I can discover something new that I wouldn't have found anywhere else due to the fact that all the reviews are entirely user generated.

That loveless dude raises a lot of good points and is being level-headed and respectful yall are getting titty twisted and bent out of shape because he presents a sound argument that doesn't conform to your shortsighted little rolling Stones top 40 club

Idk bout other sites, but reviewers at alt press have gotten paid to hype praise or inflate an otherwise decent or even bad album and got caught...
And no one really seemed to care.

As much as I was knocking on the production of this earlier, the filter at the end of world princess 2 is pretty much brilliantly executed

music is only good if ten or less people listen to it in the span of a year

Pitchfork, and music sites like it, still make up a minority, don't you realize? Many artists that they highlight get sometimes at most 1 million plays on a song on Spotify. While the actually popular artists get like 100 million +
