End of Tread Lightly is the best. Huge release on that riff.

"This album took the more mainstream vibe they attempted on The Hunter and perfected blending it with the Blood Mountain style IMO. Love it."
yeah but the problem with this is that theres none of the weirdness that The Hunter had. its all signature Mastodon, but in a really conventional and safe way with fewer dynamics. still a fun record, but i dont have high hopes for their next one if they keep going down this path.

I might've agreed a couple years ago, but even the White Walker song they did for Game of Thrones was great. As long as they don't start watering down their sound or anything they'll always be quality.

"As long as they don't start watering down their sound or anything they'll always be quality."
But they already watered it down as of The Hunter.
Leviathan / Crack the Skye / Blood Mountain / Remission
And I don't count the last two.

It still tastes pretty full bodied to me.

Overly so, it doesn't ever take a break, it's 50 min of a wall of sound, where nothing stands out.

thats just not true at all. Black Tongue is metal as fuck, Curl of the Burl is catchy, as is Blasteroid except it has more energy, Stargasm is slow and spacey, The Hunter is a quiet song, Thickening has that cool proggish opening, Creature Lives is a weird departure from everything, Spectrelight goes hard, Bedazzled Fingernails has some proggy riffing, those cool ghostly synths, and the ethereal verse/pre-chorus, and The Sparrow is a chill outro with an awesome guitar solo and a cool riff underneath it.
so you dont have to like it, but to say it has no breaks, or nothing stands out is just wtf. there is plenty of variety on that album, unlike this one, which is my main problem with it. there are zero surprises on this. except for that "hey ho, lets fuckin go" part, which was certainly a surprise, but not a pleasant one.
