Well their new drummer is shit and I hope he had 0% contribution in Hail to the King since it's probably the mainstream metal disc with the most bland drumming ever
and this album sucks too, DT is a money machine governed by the label since they went under Roadrunner

i think mankini is actually a better drummer than portnoy, DT's problems stem from other things

lol mangini's drumming is so boring

Mangini is an awesome drummer, just listen to the stuff he did with Extreme, insane feeling and technical skills. His drumming with DT lacks almost everything what makes him so great though. It's very uninspired. The problem is not Mangini per se but that he probably hasn't too much of a say in DT and has no chance to show what he's truly capable of.

the stuff he did with Extreme? the 3 tracks he did on their weakest album?

It's their strongest album for me tempest ;-) I especially meant the live performances he did with Extreme. Saw him in `95, really amazing. There's also some footage on YouTube to be found. He's a beast on drums.

better than III Sides to Every Story?? Get outta here!
No doubt he is a very skilled drummer, but yeah, from what I've heard he's formulaic and not very interesting. But I'm no Mangini maniac so you may have seen some more exciting performances.

Yeah, I really prefer the more direct and straight-to-your-face-attitude of Punchline to the sometimes a bit cheesy style of III Sides but there are also some killer tracks on the latter for sure.

Bad Religion's Brooks Wackerman is more interesting than Jarzombek imo

Album Rating: 3.5 | Sound Off
I haven't listened to this yet (about 7 DT albums left for me :D), but judging from your review it is safe to say that I can expect this to be something like "Dream Theater doing what Dream Theater does, and Dream Theater does it well"? A bit like Slash' latest effort.

Actually, have you seen the critical acclaim this has on wiki from various music sites?
It's the love this gets which is unbelievable

no ur wrong, it's fine

Love and hate are emotions too strong when speaking about this. It's quite enjoyable but pales compared to their earlier works. That's all there is to say about it I guess.
