As a whole, this album is a mess. There's no real direction or overall feel to the album that pieces all the songs together. This is, in fact just a collection of songs.

Some of the songs have immediate urgency and some extremely powerful vocal melodies. Jesse Lacey does his best to be deep as he can, and deep he is, but is it really important? The instrumentation and production is muddy and the instruments aren't as important as Lacey. The guitars are amateur, the drums boring, the bass unheard.

An average release, Jesse you'll never be Jeff Mangum.

I love the way this album (and most other Brand New albums) has a lot of genre variety.
