: ) But yeah, they are both great albums. Plus, I'm starting to feel weird comparing the two.

Well, SG's lyrics are mostly philosophical abstractions imo (particularly on BMF and SUK).

I'm not an experienced NIN connoisseur, but I'd say Trent's lyrics are more straightforward. So I dunno if I could compare the two.

This was recorded in the house where Shannon Tate was murded by the Manson family and is a themed record of the torment of Human suffering.

Superunknown has got spoonman.

Yeah, I know you're not a big SG fan zak, but no worries.

Hahaha. Everyone always throws out Spoonman. In the context of the album, it is essential to the flow, but Spoonman is not what carries Superunknown.

I actually dig Spoonman it's just weighing up the two albums one is an out and out 'rock' record the other runs a bit deeper than that

Superunknown I so much deeper than a 'rock' record. I can't even have this argument, because I love this album, it's just under strange circumstances it was compared to Superunknown and I prefer Superunknown.

I think I like Superunknown more, but they're both awesome in their own right.

Agreed school, SUK is larger than life. zak won't agree ofc, and he's perfetly entitled to his opinion (plus he knows more about alt-rock than a lot of users, 'cept maybe Hans and Stallion).

Not really comparing this to SUK since they're so different. They're both hard 5's but this STILL, 20 years later, sounds alien and futuristic. SUK is timeless, but TDS is still ahead of the curve.

Why on earth do these lyrics get so much praise? I never understood that at all

Hurt has some beautiful lyrics and there are other highlights to be sure, but this album has always been a bit weak in the lyric department for me for sure.

Dang. Poor Reznor. Almost singlehandedly composes, plays, records and produces a musically visionary masterpiece full of nuance...

...gets flack for weak lyrics.

I give him full credit for all he does. He is amazingly multitalented, but it doesn't make his lyrics better. Later in his career they do get better though.

Personally I'm not particularly finicky lyrics, unless I want to learn to perform a song. Reznor strikes me as a guy who sees vocals as an instrument rather than the focus of the music. Lyrics are just syllables to hang hooks and melodies on. I can dig that.

It works for some people and it's not a huge problem here for me so I guess it's whatever.
