you can't remove those songs though. they still represent part of the album overall. In my mind I think they represent having someone you love in your life. which isn't the entire point of the album, but it's a big part of it. you remove them and the album seems a little more trite, as I think they were trying to indicate life does w/o love.

I know I got your point, yeah the music would flow pretty well still. but as usual w/ floyd there are deeper meanings (at least that I interpret from it) and I always hate the idea of separating any of it. I refuse to listen to anything except a whole album heh. unless it's piper which I could do either way
