'What's really goin' on here?'

-Me, in disgust at that rating Dylan620 has for the legendary Brother, Sister.

Yeah idk what my problem with this was when I first checked it - maybe I rated after one listen because I wanted to see how it would evolve with subsequent spins?

mwY are one of those bands that never fail to reward repeat listens tbh (except maaaybe Untitled)

This took about a year to click with me. Didn't quite get it at first.

You are forgiven, Dylan. You did the right thing.

😇

[Untitled] left a considerably better initial impression but this is starting to look like my preference in the long run. "O, Porcupine" is one hell of a tune.

Yeah, Untitled is a powerhouse album that leaves an incredible first impression but doesn't grow all that much past it (save for Tortoises, which is its secret gem) imo - probably the most immediate mwY, but also the one rewarded the least by repeat listens. And it's still a hard 4.5.

It grows less than some of their other albums, but that's because it was already perfect to begin with.

[Untitled] grows less interesting to me every time I hear it whilst the EP more and more becomes their best release

"whilst the EP more and more becomes their best release"

now that's a hot take if I ever heard one! I thought the EP was good but honestly I have hardly felt compelled to go back to it since October

I think their LP is a whole tier better (5 vs 4.5) but honest to god they're both two of my favorite releases ever so I won't bother debating Rowan...this time ;-)

How the back half of "O, Porcupine" didn't absolutely floor me when I first checked this almost a year ago is beyond me.

Like the peacocks wandering the walkways of the zoo, who have twice the autonomy the giraffes and the penguins do saying "no one can stop me, no one can stop me, no one clips my claws. Now everyone watch me, everyone watch me, scale these outside walls"

butt.

the lyrics are unreal on this album. they're extremely well thought out while still not terribly hard to understand. lyrics on [Untitled] are a little too "out there" at times
