mayh is just the "leet" album to like on the site.

not really, at least I don't think so. That and Still Life were the albums that got me into Opeth (back when they came out), and I think they're still their best (along with Blackwater Park). Not sure how any Opeth fan could dislike MAYH really...

"Yeah lets hear Opeth going back to a sound they've done to death (minus growls) instead of a refreshing 70's influenced prog album that's actually better than pretty much every other throwback prog album and more interesting than a big chunk of their previous material!"

Considering Opeth have changed their sound and direction several times over their career, I'm pretty sure they can still sound like Opeth whilst treading new ground (which is what I'm hoping). Is it too much to ask for them to do that whilst not completely alienating what made them so special in the first place like they did by rehashing 70's prog on Heritage?

Basically, Heritage was an Akerfeldt album. He even said that in an interview from 2011, he said that he'd wanted to do something like it for ages.

While I do think Heritage is fantastic, I do hope the new album has contributions from the other band members. Also, I really do hope they go really 'off the wall' with it, they've had long enough to craft a new sound on the upcoming record.

All I'm hoping is that the album doesn't tread familiar ground too much. I've listened to Heritage enough to know that a carbon copy of that record made again would be frustrating.

Dark, slightly heavy passages with melodic tendencies would be sweet though! DON'T LIE TO US MIKAEL!!!!
