pretty lush is the ultimate straight edge anthem as it’s just shitting on a girl for drinking once while also being written and performed by a guy who smokes weed

Kinda wild to claim this album is held back by misogynistic themes but you still like the most famously misogynistic song on the record

"bro you got a big black 5/5 and you're in here talking about misogyny"

my problem was never the lyrics, you can literally sing about whatever. my problem is when you give a bullshit apology all because some semi-related band got under fire

plus i gave that rating like a decade ago before the CP shit became common knowledge

you know i don't actually disagree with you. my issue with your complaint is that you and i already had this discussion like 8 years on in this very thread(just went back and looked lol). my grievance then and still now is that while yea i do agree it was lame of daryl to morally grandstand, disavow this, and then play the entire thing at the 20th anniversary show(not to mention all the merch they made for it), the whole situation has been beaten to death. shit even a few years ago i posted a comment itt that said something along the lines of "without fail someone every few years starts this discussion again".

though i will cut you some slack because at least you aren't like some of the now retired/banned white knights who'd come in here complaining about the lyrics as though they don't love and give passes to other extremely problematic artists. also the site is dead so we may as well shoot the shit. looking back though it seems you really had a thing for this album considering you've been commenting in this thread for over a decade. so was daryl's pc campaign just a total kill joy for you or did you just ironically bump this thread frequently?

i've been reevaluating some of the music i used to listen to in high school and glassjaw was one of the first bands i started looking back on. ive met glassjaw fans in more recent years who have inconsistent opinions regarding extreme lyrics and bands, like its okay to write a song about drowning an infant girl but wrong to write something racist. In some circles the appeal is the hatefulness, but its an "acceptable" bigotry that doesn't attack anything they would agree with. Something like anal cunt or whitehouse is taking it "too far", when I think it would be the logical next step after listening to hurting and shoving.

A few years ago I didnt have a strong opinion on any of that, so i never got involved with those initial discussions on here besides saying "well they changed the lyrics". Basically just accepting whatever they did and said.

So perhaps its mostly a personal vendetta, but I do genuinely the middle portion of this album is not as good as the highlights and that this was ground zero for the modern day "melodic" pop-punk/core thats popular with the younger generation.
