I'm currently listening to this as I type. I just got through the first track and I've yet to hear why this is a 5? I understand the imagery and I get the inspiration, but the technicality (which is what I expected) seems to be lacking. I was expecting epic instrumentals, strings, percussion, and feeling; but all I hear and feel are long held out chords, little percussion, and lots of silence. I get the trip this album takes you to, but I can't see giving this a 2, let alone a 5. Plus I thought there was a difference between poetry and music? Please, I want to like this, so someone please try to explain this to me.

I've read all both the Staff reviews on this, and the only epic, 5 worthy moment is in East Hastings. I had a major high in that song, but Providence (which I am currently experiencing) is really boring me. First Track wan't bad, but wasn't above average. I'd have to rate the entire experience at a 2.5/5 now. I know what post-rock is too. I'm giving it a chance. I've yet to get why everyone loves this album (unless they all want to seem deep or something).

I understand East Hastings epicness (I'd give it a 4/5 or a 4.5/5) but the rest is just lackluster in comparison. They bring this album down a lot. A 2.5/5 is the highest I can go for the entire album, and even that may be too high.

ah well, no one's holding a gun to your head, so just move on
there's lots of 'epicness' dispersed across the album. hopefully you'll have the patience to discover something similar in another shape or form elsewhere

I know, but I really wanted to like this, so I'm pretty disappointed. I like Slow Riot for New Zero Kanada better as a whole (even though I'll probably only give it a 3)

His attention span can't handle the amazing composition value of this band.

I just don't get the complexity of the music. Sure it's long and deep, but the first and third track have no technical complexity (aside from the percussion in certain parts).

WTF? Guy's genuinely trying to get into this album and all people have are snide remarks and insults?
The first and third tracks are more about atmosphere than complexity or energy. But I'd definitely suggest trying to gain a larger appreciation for Slow Riot before trying to get into this. The build-ups and atmosphere on BBF are easier to get into. This requires the right setting and focus to be really enjoyed properly, and it can definitely seem boring if the style is new to you.

Low frequency sound causes fear/discomfort in humans. It's cool how that's used in the start of Dead Flag Blues.
