the weeknd track is a highlight so far tbh, pushes the lushness to an extreme and it's great. them swells

Her ~darker~ stuff definitely is her better stuff but there are a few tracks that fit that bill here. And it's not as if that side of her music was prevalent at all u til thank u, next.

All in all new one is more upbeat than this one for sure but west side, nasty, and motive?

"I guess I keep expecting that sensual/darker style from her given her whole image"

has her image ever been dark? didn't she tour in a cat costume for like a year? lol

Lol sona the weeknd track is literally identical to every other vapid, mediocre, flaccid weeknd track made post trilogy, it's fucking whack.

You know when ur at some reaaally basic club for wannabe bougie hoes and bros and you see that one girl that's so drunk she doesnt know where she even at and shes just air grinding on the dance floor and then you see some dude with his eyes half closed stumble out of the corner of some dark booth to go latch on to her backside without asking permission and she doesnt even notice?

Weeknd is the soundtrack to that

I usually have distaste for the weeknd but I honestly at least sort of liked the overbearing lushness of After Hours and don't mind him (putatively) importing that sound here or producers replicating it or whatever. it mostly depends on songwriting I guess, and though "off the table" is basic or maybe even perfunctory in some ways it's a nice progression and I think the string swells sound super cool playing it

I haven't listened to any weeknd albums except maybe thursday (I only remember the zone), definitely house of balloons and after hours. that's it tho. he's a scrub I agree, but I tend to have good will towards artists who release even one thing I like, and house of balloons was great

More like overbearing homogeneity

I do think she should have dropped the album all at once though, like a "bombshell" moment, like Taylor Swift, but without announcing it like a day before, think it would have caused even more of a storm tbh

Trilogy was all good, I guess that's why I feel so strongly about his music now. Bruh fucked the dog, but he was chasin that fame ig

yeah on closer inspection (google images) she's never been about the dark vibes and her cat costume looks more like a Saturday disney costume than a #badbitch one like I remember it o

I prefer this Ariana though https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFtUKLvNxf0

More on topic Eric dingus also did a rather dope remix of a weeknd track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rs0JOd_9ub8

yeah After Hours was really homogeneous as well, hard to take as a package (and I haven't listened to it much since my first)

Trilogy was just like such an edgy and refreshing shot at the type of hoeish/broish date rape alt r&b he ended up just replicating on every album afterwards

Like I kinda thought he was here to actuslly shake the game up, not to emulate it

if I get this right i'll look cool and if I get it wrong nobody will notice: "shut up," "off the table," "my hair," (this one is already listed) and "obvious" are all written by the parx/monet/brown squad (but not the whole album). impossible to tell but lessgo
