"Deception" is actually the one I've been listening to the most these past couple days. The heavier riffs stand out particularly, really complementing Jonny-bb in the most flattering manner, providing just the right amount of edge. The abrasiveness of Mess' vocals, now that I think about it, means they seem to work best sharing spotlight w/ solid musicianship instead of going off on their own, a bit too far (Death Star syndrome.)
& before that track it was "Frozen One," which just immediately launches into impeccably catchy riffs -- so good. And the mixing / mastering here is phenomenal, managing to actually pull off tons of the bullshit the band pulls off (as per usual)
Acceptance Speech serves as a fascinating comparison piece now bc from this vantage point, that album looks to be a much comparatively duller experience than what was to come. I've said it before, and I'll say it again that that release was flawed from the start because of its mixing work, but the songs themselves were still quite good. And on top of this all, I feel they've really trimmed the fat musically / creatively by having pushed an impressive amount of song ideas out, staggering releases at this relatively quick album cycle. By this point, DGD has released roughly the same amount of music with Tillian in tow than did beforehand, despite the band existing roughly 7 years or so before Tillian's eventual join. And this and Artificial Selection showcase the band being at their prime, which as a listener is always an incredible place to be. Especially considering Stolas and A Lot Like Birds both going under, so to speak < 3

I've been giving it chances over the last two years unfortunately so I don't think this will ever grow on me. Betrayed By the Game and Man of the Year are admittedly great songs but the rest eh
I don't think it's the style of it either, cos I weirdly love both AS and AS (lol), I just think this and IG executed it really badly and Flanderised the hell out of Mess
