"if an album is willing to get political then it should be met on its own terms"
this is fair but i think the main divide here is between the people who find lines such as the trayvon one poignant and people who dont
which is really all up to personal interpretation

there is nothing political about this album whatsoever wines is projecting the fact that in his head homosexuality is still a political discussion
not sure what sort of bumfuck area youre from but thats not the case in most civilized parts of the world
|

Why does it need to be a binary system where it’s either political or not. It has a couple of political elements but I don’t see why mentioning Trayvon Martin instantly makes this whole album POLITICAL

wines and butcher, i'm really failing to understand your points here

like, why is his sexuality all of a sudden coming into question? guy's been an all-star long before coming out of the closet. claims of it being a disingenuous marketing ploy are fucking lol

Classic clip Zak lol
My dad worked in the states for a bit, mainly interacted with Canadians (not too far away from the English in humour/interactions), and some Texans (basically he thought they were from another planet).
He called it The Matrix...the humour bypass, the irony black hole, the sarcasm gap - call it what you will, it's there and no english man will EVER understand it.
Really disconcerting...like a whole world of Trump. The lights are on...but are they really ON?

all dumb music aside, as someone from minnesota, can confirm no one in the states has ANY lights on. traditionalist fucks put us back a year, daily, everywhere you go

Frightening really.
If you can’t take the piss you have nothing.

That glitch in The Matrix every time a yank isn't able to take the piss/respond to piss take, a hole in the soul, worse than death probably. Still, despite this, every english man wants to keep travelling to the States at any given opportunity (well, nearly every one, Corbyn prob would rather visit the Soviet Bloc but whatever, my point stands)

I'll take the Soviet bloc myself

It feels like 90% of this country have quite an extreme level of cynicism, and that mixes in with the humour to stave off the unbearable levels of depression there would otherwise be. Some say Brits are just miserable but thats not the whole deal. Most of our humour stems from that inclination towards cynicism.
With America it seems about 10% of the population have comparable levels of cynicism, and that in general cynicism is seen as the worst possible attitude a lot of the time. Maybe that results in increased genuine 'happiness' I dunno.

americans are just plain dumber, let's say it how it is.
People here in Latin America, while they might be poor as hell and/or living violent and short lives, they never struck me as elementaly, as sturdly and simple DUMB as the average everyday american does... Maybe it's the education system, maybe it's the puritan religious traditions, maybe it's something in the water? I dunno.
