just view the entire second leg of BN's discog as an extended reaction to how much of a douche jesse came off as on the first two records (+ how much he obviously walked that walk irl) and it all makes sense

I haven't jammed Brand New in years TBH. Johnny YFW slaps. It's pop-punk goodness

Jesper word lol, although that goes for all brand new
I'm probably overrating this a little, but the grittier post hxc lean here suited them v well - this record shows where TDAG and SciFi tell, and now that enough time has passed to see that half those albums' lyrics have aged tepidly, I think this one comes out way on top

This album is great, and the only reason the fanbase hates it is because there are too many basic pop punk fans who got scared off by the underground 90s noise rock references.
"The band looked to channel their live performances, as well as the noise of bands such as Fugazi, Polvo, Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus Lizard, in order to produce the raw and often chaotic sound of the album." doubt any of the Your Favorite Weapon fans like any of those bands tbh

sput providing the worst takes yet again. My Bloody Valentine are incredible. This is not and if you compare the two... my word.....

MBV are the sore thumb in that list and the only basis for their inclusion to begin with is their small handful of songs that are basically interchangeable with Polvo/SY (most of which are tbf bangers, but not what anyone thinks if they read their name)
influence-wise, this was very easily the era where they had best taste in their own music though lol

i like how different this is. probably the most consistent stylistic package. the aggression really fits and i like the little twang it has. definitely lacey's best vocal performance in my book. haven't heard anything quite like this.
