Yeah, IDK about this cover art...ehhh...I’ve seen worse, but for DEG, this is comical.

It's probably their 2nd worst or worst LP cover (Marrow) but I still like it. Could have been better though, they desperately need to deliver with this album.

not a fan of the marrow album cover? I don't think it looks that bad. haha i'd say withered is the worst out of the current catalogue. insulated is defo the worst imo though. i agree with amok, it's not terrible, but in terms of who we're talking about here, it's a shock to the system.

I like Marrow's cover but the competition beats it pretty easily imo. I love the Withering one if it's this version: https://img.discogs.com/9do11ZijfcURZqmym9Gk1Q2u6N0=/fit-in/600x535/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-501638-1358084295-8822.jpeg.jpg
If it's the black and white version, I'd share the same opinion as yourself. Out of the LP's, DSS' alternative cover is my fav. Gauze's would come second.

I don't really dig it, I would have definitely preferred something else, especially after how nice the previous three were.

"they desperately need to deliver with this album."
For their own integrity, they have to. I can't imagine it being so bad to the point that it's objectively more deplorable than the GazettE's last 5 albums, but a bad DEG album's literally quite terrible for their legacy. Actually, I can't think of a DEG album that I've genuinely disliked but MACABRE comes the closest to an album I didn't enjoy as much as other albums.

Yeah, Macabre is certainly their misfire in my eyes, and it still has some amazing songs on it.

MACABRE is a pretty terrible album, the only way to enjoy it is in Blitz 5 Days or watching Mode Macabre. It's a shame the studio version is so eh because it has got so many cool ideas.

Funny you should mention Mode of Macabre, Calc. I watched a few days ago and I agree, it was very enjoyable. Like Mode of Kisou, I had a new found appreciation for those songs thanks to those songs being brought into the modern era of the band with newer, tighter performances.
Sans several songs (Berry and audrey being two of my least favorite DEG songs period) the songwriting on MACABRE isn't deplorable J-rock tier *cough*post-DIMGazettE*cough* it's just that for me personally, the production is underwhelming (maybe just as much as the recent singles), the performances felt unrealized, and its execution wasn't great. Zakuro, Hotarubi, Deity, Rasetsukoku and the title track (both its original and remakes for the latter two) are the album's best moments and are some of my personal favorite DEG tracks.

Berry and Audrey are shit tbh. The former being flat out unpleasant to listen to and Audrey not having enough ideas to be four minutes. I haven't watched it yet but from what I've heard, they've managed to make those songs great, which is an achievement in of itself. Macabre's the only album I can think of where there's too much bass and not enough guitars in the mix, it's the other way round so many times. Such an oddball album in general.

Take my word for it, the problem of the guitars being buried under the mix is solved on Mode of Macabre. The bass is lower in the mix without overshadowing the guitars but still being loud and audible enough. The most glaring example's on egnirys cimredopyh and it now sounds better than ever.
Mode of Withering to death's probably the most intense at least for Kyo's stage presence...bringing back the fish hooking gimmick for Kodoku Ni Shisu, Yueni Kodoku (though I'm one to believe it's fake and just for theatrics rather than actual self-harm like in the WTD/TMOAB era). I think these last two "Mode of..." lives are two of the better ones (Mode of Kisou, Vulgar, and TMOAB being my three personal faves).
