Both with headphones and speakers, it's annoying!
And agreed budgie, this flows very well and I like the way it's built up like that.

that sucks about the irritations with the mix. sometimes i have that with certain songs but never with anything on teachings in silence or perdition (thankfully lol)

Yes it is a bit annoying for sure.

Such a bloody amazing track otherwise!

They're very cool yeah, and suit the mood perfectly. But they almost hurt/actually hurt sometimes, physically. It's hard to describe. Like how a dog whistle would hurt.

My thoughts exactly. I like those weird radar sounds and find a strange harmony in their odd frequencies.

Same yeah, I really like the lower registers of those sounds, the bleeps and bloops, but the highest squeaks are painful.

You may be right about the track list budgie; I've listened to this so many times that I can't imagine it being in a different order, and it does flow well as is.
Trifo that's an interesting point about the band possibly not hearing those high-pitched frequencies from recording Nattens Madrigal. Maybe that's true of listeners as well, and you and I are examples of people with great hearing!

"one comment about the second half being underwhelming: if you are comparing individual tracks sure the latter half has less bangers, but when listening to the album a-z, the huge buildup of the first 5 with the ridiculous sweeping outro of "the future sound of music" is exhausting, in a good way, but by the end of that track, the gentle ambient style of the subsequent three atmosphere tracks is perfect. and then it ends on another exciting banger. it's just constructed perfectly"
this is good content, and I almost agree but the spoken word parts of Dead City Centres and the skit-esque feel of Catalept knock it off tilt imo. Imagine if they'd had a time machine and replaced those tracks with D-Day Drone hnnng
unrelated, but I'm on Drone Activity right now and the final track is the absolute business

Sad fact. I didn't like this album when I first heard it, in fact I was really depressed. Today it is my favorite Ulver recording.

Dead City Center is amazing, with all its high pitched noises and jazzy drumming, and noir horns and the trailer-like voice over. Perdition City and Dead Cities by FSoL both captivate an amazing atmosphere.
PS I'm talking suggestions about similar albums

It's a great album actually, Ganglion, Trip Hop at its finest. Truly a remarkable album and extremely underrated.

It's the only thing I have ever heard that comes close to Perdition City, it's actually scary about the resemblance.
