New song is pretty cool. It reminds me of Baroness a little bit. The beginning and ending parts really don't have anything to do with the rest of the song, though...

New song was better than anything off this. Still a bit wankey but sounded more like the opeth I loved

First 1½ min of new song are absolutely atrocious, better than anything else off of this one for the remainder of the track.

That chugging riff in the new song is fucking awful. It sounds like Killswitch Engage or some shit. I'm sure Opeth fans will lap it up though cos heavy=good obviously...

Rest of the song is alright, although nowhere near as good as the best (or even the middle of the road) moments of Heritage. Still holds promise that the album might be more interesting than this.

"Honestly its kind of a stretch for Akerfeldt to put out their more recent material under the Opeth moniker. Totally different sound, totally different members."

It really isn't a stretch at all. Bands have change style far more significantly than Opeth and still keep their name and no one bats an eyelid.

"There's not nearly as much focus on seamless transitions and development/polishing of the core melodic ideas. There's a lot more directionless meandering. But that includes watershed, where Akerfeldt at least tried to include some aspects of the classic Opeth sound. Heritage onwards, may as well be a different band."

Oh come on, Orchid and Morningrise (although two of their better albums) are far more meandering, disjointed and lacking in seamless transitions than their latest material.

"23th"

:/

New track is weird and that's why I like it. That main riff kinda reminds me of Immortal's Tyrants.
