just emo revival is so insipid and derivative once you've heard all the 90s classics

yeah but idk that argument just annoys me a bit. its almost like, well if it's copying the classics, why wouldn't you like it?

tbh I'm pretty indifferent towards most 90's emo whereas with emo revival I either love something or hate something with little in-between

because copies are always worse. it's like remaking classic movies what's the need?

idk I feel like they offer a lot of new things too. some emo is p derivative trash tho yeah but others are different enough that they can even surpass some of their influences IMO

disagree with that... if you learn from the mistakes of the old material you can cherry pick all the right elements and make something great out of it. It's just kind of hard to pull it off and not be tempted to use past material as a crutch.

a pretty sizable chunk of what makes a good emo record to me is the lyricism, and there are no shortage of bands today that come up with some pretty original and well-penned stuff in that regard

a good example of something fresh in emo revival is whenever if ever. easily my favorite thing to come out of the scene. just find most of it pretty boring.

see the funny thing is W,IE is one of the best albums of the revival, ye

but then as soon as that got some circulation, a bunch of the revival bands tried to piggyback that sound
