They people just do it for themselves as a side thing if that's the case. Which i find super admirable.

So does anyone actually know what this album is about? Seems to be a concept behind it with all songs connected in some way. Feel like this is an important part of the record and I'm still not sure about the rating..

I don't think this has a concept but some of this is about having spiritual conflict, depression, old memories, lost love, from what I get from it at least. The lyrics on this thing are masterful.

I think it is a concept album because there are a lot of reoccuring elements between the songs and they somehow seem to tell a similiar or better said ongoing story. Not sure yet though.

I can actually see some elements to this that help your argument, there are a lot of recurring lyrical themes and a ton of recurring emotions. But the stories aren't really connected, and mostly all seem disconnected. Idk, might take a deeper look into it later.

Believe me, I've looked extensively. I personally don't see any concept or straight up story but the lyrics are amazing nonetheless.

South Street appears twice. In Roots he says he doesn't remember much at all, while he finally remembers in the closer. The picture of something burning/glowing reappears too. Just a few examples, there's more. I could imagine it being one story from different viewpoints or sth like that.

I'm pretty sure it's not a "concept" album in the way Titus' new one or classics like Tommy/The Wall are
but it's certainly thematically linked in the way a lot of Isis albums are for example
it's a highly personal album so Nicky's basing everything from what he knows - makes sense that places that are real or that are based off real places eg South Street would re-appear as he has memories of them
the glowing thing is a distinct recurring metaphor but then again it's hardly uncommon in music like this to use metaphors like that, I doubt it's evidence of a larger story at play

I took away from it that feeling of people moving away and things changing, people changing, places changing. There's a hard feeling of the singer amongst so many people but feeling wholly alone, things aren't what they used to be before.
It nails that feeling that if things could just go back to how they were before, everything would be ok, but with a heavy dose of 'I know this isn't going to ever go back to that and I have to deal with that'

You're all very right and bring intelligent answers to the table. I still don't see any concept in the traditional sense but many of these themes are quite negative for sure. That's why The Good Days hits me so hard in particular. It's literally exactly what JS just described but for me.

This album is just masterful. Every song just gets better and better with more listens. I love the haunting overtone and the instruments just sound beautiful. Looking online it seems like this band is their project not even their job which is mind-boggling. Here is Where I think is my favorite song of all time now.
