This is a lot better than I expected, greeeeaaaat! The bookends are obviously the best on here, A Rite Of Passagr is pretty by the numbers and Wither is cheesy, but kinda enjoyable. Still need to form an opinion about The Best of Times. The Shattered Fortress is great, too, I'm not bothered by it being a kinda medley of the other 12SS songs

Yeah the album could have done without A Rife of Passage and Wither, would have been a lot better if they where replaced for a 13 min song or something, but it's actually crazy to me how this album has only 6 tracks and it's an hr and 15 mins, that is CRAZY bro

Absolutely, man. A Nightmare To Remember is over 16 minutes long and they go by so fast. They really got something extremely right with this

I even enjoy Rite of Passage and Wither to some degree. It‘s really amazing they were able to pull off such a strong record at that point of their career.

I wonder if they can still do something like this. It doesn't have to be as heavy, but song with similar quality would be nice

I got into these guys barely over 11 years ago shortly after Systematic Chaos came out, and it is hard to believe that there was a time when I actually loved the post-SDOIT albums. This is the only one that I think that I could mostly enjoy these days, and that is because of how great a lot of the eciamelodies are. The Count of Tuscany rules because of that, and the soft part in the opening track is phenomenally good, but the rest, and especially the horrendous ending......yeah. xd

This def is the best post Six Degrees album... However, what horrendous ending are you speaking of? The ending of Tuscany is amazing.

The opening track. Those growls....

Haha ok, they never bothered me that much but yeah, they are a bit over the top.

The harsh growls are pretty amusing, but i don't think it necessarily sounds "bad", kinda cool to hear Portnoy doing the lead vocal for a little moment, but that's just me

You get used to Portnoy's vocals, but they're such a pointless addition. I think the only song I felt they worked well in was "Constant Motion."

Mike Portnoy is the best harsh vocalist of all time.
Good we finally clarified this. m/

Yeah Akerfeldt‘s growling sounds like a six year old girl‘s whining in comparison.

I never got the appeal of this artificial boyband shit like Opeth tbh. Fucking metalcore

The Best Of Times, A Nightmare To Remember, The Shattered Fortress and The Count Of Tuscany are so damn good. They need melodies like these again. And of course these awesome Portnoy vocals

The Count Of Tuscany is so brilliant. Get huge Rush vibes from that song.

Yeah even though that track is a year long, it's one of the few that always keeps my attention for the whole span. This is easily my fav album of theirs.
