i take it into account somewhat, but at most it only serves as a tie-breaker if im not sure what to rate something... and even then, never for the highest stuff, thats always reserved for what i love most

Haha, look this is good. But it has so much hype... I came into it thinking I was going to have my cap blown off. And its just... great. That's all.

Not at all. Actually pretty substantial considering how old it is.

i think for me what makes this one so special is that while you may be able to find better ambient techno for instance, and obviously groups like autechre took the """intelligent""" aspect to completely new levels... there just isnt any other record that i know of that lies at the intersection of ambient, club music (and make no mistake some of the cuts here were big in clubs) and idm. not to mention that its eminently accessible

basically its kind of like the one record that is closest to distilling all (or as much as possible) of electronic, the chill parts, the dancy parts and the fancy parts. can be a good gateway for people who think electronic is dumb (and move on to idm), for people who think club music is necessarily obnoxious, for people who think ambient is slow and boring, or just anyone trying to get into electronic

incunabula is pretty close i will say that, but it often gets lost in the conversation among all the other ae releases

I appreciate that take. But if time isn't a consideration, Lapalux's Amnioverse took hold, and idk who can overtake that. And I know there are artist in between, but I don't think it matters. That album is a straight up masterpiece. I'd recommend it to new and old.

i will also say, a lot of us probably just get more out of this than you, beyond any intellectual or meta considerations. it may well have to do with the internet hype machine creating impossible to meet or even false expectations

but yea this is def in my top 100 most played records of all time, and i love it for exactly what it is

friendly (not condescending at all) reminder that albums grow on you with time and repeat listens, and that how you feel about an album after listening to it for the first time is not necessarily indicative of how you're going to feel about it after the ___ time

I'm 99% sure that the first time I listened to this album my opinion was "eh, p good, nuffin' special"

sure, but its also ok not to waste too much time on something you feel doesnt necessarily have growth potential for you
