“truly is a brat summer. been a long time since an album had this much staying power in the main-ish stream”

Billie Eilish album has 5x the streams on all platforms as brat if not a lot more, and it’s only like a month older

Streams are different from cultural impact! Billie Eilish has a larger listener base, and probably a larger ‘fanbase’ for however that is defined, but there is a culture surrounding BRAT outside of the consumption of the music itself, that extends even to people who don’t care about the music itself.

The term ‘brat summer’ being pretty normalised online should be evidence enough. Aint no one having their hard and soft summer. Sorry NoIWantsHisAvatarBack but let us have well deserved fun with this album

Another way to put this is that NEVERMIND (1991)’s two weeks at #1 on the Billboard 200 were triangulated by 9 weeks of Garth Brooks’ ROPIN’ THE WIND, which was succeeded by like 15 weeks of Billy Ray Cyrus’ SOME TAKE ALL.

Billie's album is fantastic, don't get me wrong but like others have said, brat is actually permeating the culture. There's multiple songs that are viral. People say "I'm so Julia", they are doing the "Apple" dance, they are sayin "bumping that", the Kamala Harris banner....

It's a movement in a way that we haven't seen in a minute. I'm struggling to think of another album that's made its mark like that this year. The Kendrick-Drake beef and brat summer are genuine throwbacks to how culture used to have a little more staying power

this isn’t bombastically extraverted. she narrates at least 4 of her personal thoughts
