late 80s through early 90s was just classic after classic alternative album it seems like

this, New Order's Technique, Stone Roses debut, Depeche Mode's Violator, TFF's Sowing the Seeds of Love, MBV's first two records, Pixies' first two

if I was a 20-something in that era my wallet would be assuredly empty

Bach wasn't even famous at all in his time. He was immediately forgotten by the public when he died, though his music was still studied a lot by composers. It took until Felix Mendelssohn almost 100 years later for his music to be brought back to public ears



So yeah, fame really doesn't mean much in the long run
