Someone mentioned Post-boredom sounding like SOAD earlier, forgot who it was, but I played the song for a friend who doesn't really listen to metal and she immediately said "is this System of a Down?" Cool coincidence there.

Very interesting that people hear a connection between that song and SOAD. I suppose the vocal style is a tad like Serj's older style and the rhythm is groovy and frantic like most of SOAD.

Might have been me who said that. I think the repetition of video, video, video in a goofy style given the way Serj sings on Radio/Video made it really jump out on Sly in particular no just on Post Boredom.

I think the main thing here is Keith manages to sound like he’s having a blast when the vibe suits but also losing his mind and raging when necessary, it’s a top performance.

I love Sly but definitely didn't think it was a highlight first listen. But now, I think it's a great second track that separates itself. It probably helps the album length feel shorter with its variation.

Breakdowns like the one in the middle of Distress Rehearsal make me feel like I'm being physically choked they are so heavy.

I'm catching on to some of this being AWLWLB-ish with the energy of Axe to Fall, but in an innovative way. Could just be convergent evolution but at least to me a lot of those drawn out, hazy melodic notes sound like AWLWLB. Desperate Pleasures for sure, sexsexsex a lot of it sounds like that, especially the last minute. Could be the guitar tone and level in the mix too.
