might as well be with the mindnumbingly repetitive ambient track. i probably exaggerate "samey" a lot but there really is only one melody the entire time.

by the 15 minute mark i was hoping varg would've switched to an alternate motif but it was a switchup that never came, and i was sitting here trying to not skip because i had heard all there was to actually hear on that one. truly mindnumbing stuff, and these same people say all Nickelback songs sound the same?

Well at least you don't mind the vocals this time around
|
| |
Also yeah i don't think you really get this era of BM, it's supposed to be trebly, lofi, cold and evil. If there was bass and decent production it would be much less evil. Or to put it in the right lingo: true kvlt

I guess. The lack of low end kinda hurts my ears tho. like at least with say, And Justice for All, there's enough low end in the guitar tone for it to be passable as is, though I 100% prefer the AJFJason version.

@sevengill i'm too lazy to copy paste the url lmao
I hate the the 2007ness of Sputnik
|
| |
@venin i'm with you regarding AJFA, the Justice For Jason versions with decent bass (Frost Media Productions is my choice) elevate the album quite a bit. It is my favourite 'tallica because it is their heaviest and most accomplished from an instrumental standpoint. And James peaked there too

can't believe i'm wading in for a fucking burzum album, but
"it's one melody repeated over the course of nearly a half hour - textbook definition of samey."
the whole point of 'samey' as a criticism is to highlight how the distinctions between two+ things that *are not the same* are irrelevant in the face of their homogeneity. using for a literal repetition is moot and completely misses the point of the nuance.
" these same people say all Nickelback songs sound the same"
back to the textbook.
"pure ambient is usually best served as background music imo"
good ambient should explore/reinvent/challenge what 'background' music means on its own terms and has no business with vastly unhelpful generalisations of the term like this
that said, what I've heard of varg's ambient is total arse but there are plenty of reasons to criticise it beyond superfluous bollocks that points far more acutely to your brittle attention span and capacity to process music outside of crass shows of pathos and elementary melodic progressions than anything else

Those complaints for a bm album, a Burzum album no less, are asinine.

Sometimes you just have to accept that a thing is not to your taste. I cannot for the life of me watch a Marvel movie for example, but i don't think about it because why waste the time and effort

yeah take the thoughts from those three posts and re-evaluate your decisions
btw, that doesn't equal that you have to like this.

If this didn't have the cult following of people willing to hurl words like "poser" to those who haven't heard and experienced it I'm not sure I would've finally caved.
this is often considered the consensus best BM album of all time and "essential listening" to everyone looking into the genre.
