'just saw a list of the top 10 best buttrock bands and Anberlin was ... they're on there because people have only heard Feel Good Drag.'

googling feel good drag and buttrock yields multiple results

all im saying is im not alone in finding that song pretty buttrocky

Butt rock and radio rock have always seemed somewhat interchangeable to me. There's some radio rock I enjoy that I don't really think of as butt rock, tho, so I dunno, I guess I never really gave it that much thought since I first heard the term

I guess I have always associated butt rock with stuff like Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin, but I don't really have a definitive definition as what qualifies as butt rock now that I think about it

"butt rock" is more or less a term that people throw around towards bands that they don't like, it's not like it's an actual genre of course.

i am so sick of seeing variations of this argument. pretentious is just a term people throw around towards bands that they dont like. buttrock is just a term people throw around to bands they just dont like. generic is a just a term people throw around to bands they just dont like

of course buttrock isnt an actual genre, but i do think it has merit as a description. yes people do lazily throw around pejoratives. but their lazy usage doesnt invalidate the whole term

(also im aware you werent saying buttrock isnt a useless term toondude and i do more or less agree with you, just using this as a springboard for a half baked musing)

I would like to formally request butt rock be considered for a genre tag on sput. It's real and it's out there

I always took butt rock as shitty (no pun intended) radio rock but I could be misunderstanding. Under that premise though, I don't think Anberlin really qualifies.

yeah i think buttrock as shitty radio rock is a pretty accurate description

bands proclivity for being middle aged men with emo haircuts and black clothes hot topic clothes/leather jackets also indicates a buttrock persuasion

At the same time though MCR does that and I don't really consider them butt rock, whereas very non-emo bands like Imagine Dragons are very much butt rock in my book. I think so much of it has to do with being horribly untalented but garnering fame by playing basic chords and appealing to the masses. See: Nickelback, Three Days Grace, latter day Seether and Shinedown, et al.
