This one is really straightforward, but its def a grower like all of theirs. Its most similar to ashes against the grain, but at the same time it isn't. Imo it has the best guitar tone since PF

Were they so ashamed of this one they forever ceased to make music ?

From what I know, Don Anderson got a full time job. Meanwhile John Haughm wanted to keep pumping out albums and touring.

Based on their social media history, I can only assume that John went on a rampage and ended up breaking up the band in haste because of Don's increasing distance.

Sounds like the breakup was a long time coming and inevitable though because John and Don were both the essential elements of the band - and Don leaving to pursue a family was a big blow to the band that just couldn't be overcome.

I'm happy with what they made either way.

Thanks for the rundown. Honestly looking back at their discog I struggle to think of many bands in metal music that have ever achieved such a synthesis of styles. Its crazy how fresh and unique they still sound today

I love this record. So well sculpted, and honestly a great bookend to their career - whether intended to be so or not

Wait, so what was the overwhelming hate for this again? I listened to this and it was pretty good! Not 2.5 bad lol

It is definitely their weakest but it is still pretty good. Dark Matter Gods is a top tier song too.

According to their wiki: Johnathon P. Haughm had his bandmates sign a contract which, among other conditions, forbade them from starting families and accessing clean drinking water during work hours. In early 2016 Donald H. Anderson was discovered to be in breach of said contract and was immediately expelled. The band dissolved shortly thereafter.

It just feels kind of uninspired, and it is. John mentioned that.

Yeah it’s their weakest and definitely not a revelation like The Mantle but idk I found myself enjoying this and scratching my head as to why I was butt hurt about it.

Upon first listen, we immediately tried to compare it with the storytelling and iconic nature of Mantle and Pale.

I feel like one of the few who prefer this and Marrow to their first three.
