maynard will commit suicide by drowning in his own wine before a tool record comes out. and when it comes out it'll be called "10,000 vinyards"

sputnik proceeds to mass 5 it, thus repeating the 4.9 of Koi no Yokan

Even if the songwriting is better on the next album, Petrucci's distorted tones are bound to get worse.

At this point I'd take another I&W throwback album like ADTOE was leaning towards. That's probably my favorite of theirs since Octavarium.

ADTOE is my favourite since TOT. Never was much of an Octavarium fan and I used to like Systematic Chaos, but now the thrill is gone.

Train of Thought, Octavarium, and Systematic Chaos all have a few incredible songs each, some great heavy songs, and about 50% mediocrity.

Systematic Chaos definitely has some of their most pointless moments and biggest wastes of time in my opinion. They recovered from that a bit with Black Clouds, and ADTOE was a huge step in the right direction, even though it didn't sound any fresher. I think refreshing their sound is actually what they tried to do with this one.

Exactly that. It's just I'm more connected to ToT and SC than I am with Octavarium.

It would feel really contrived again and hence be pretty boring. I guess every DT release after Octavarium is just a different level of boring.

Even if they do create something great again someday, I don't think I'd be enjoying it as much as I would have a couple of years ago.

I think most people feel this way, the last time DT threads were popular I remember it was mostly people talking about how they haven't really jammed them in years and don't care about their new music.
