i was about to agree with you but then, wouldn't burzum's s/t be the most important album?

in considering that burzum's first output is the original second wave album which started the entire craze? at least i think i heard fenriz suggest that

Burzum s/t was pretty average, maybe influential for BM, but for me this is the the most important album of the 90's

Well, kinda, Varg released a demo or two earlier than this album was released, but this was written in '91 I believe. Also I think I might know the quote you're referring to but (if I'm correct, which is questionable) that was either Fenriz talking about Mayhem's Live in Leipzig, or Varg about this album, I can't quite remember.

maybe. i think it was in until the light takes us. i dont think he was talking about live in leipzig, but yeah, really cant remember exactly

it could have been that he just didnt want to grandstand saying darkthrone started the wave

Yeah the quote I'm thinking of is also from Until... I'll flick through the DVD tonight cuz it's bugging me not knowing haha, but yeah this came out slightly before Burzum's s/t and was written considerably earlier than that.

Burzum s/t doesn't get enough love. Imo it's just as good as Filo and Hvis.
But ye I'm pretty sure this album kickstarted the 2nd wave

Edit: I don't know actually, this album does have some DM elements they didn't fully shed until Funeral Moon which is what I consider their first pure unadulterated BM album, so maybe Fenriz felt the same way and considers the Burzum s/t the first 100% pure 2nd wave BM record?

Good point actually, dude has said before that he considers this to be about 50% slightly altered dm riffs

yeah a lot of the riffing here is pretty blatantly from the soulside framework, but with the aesthetic and production its still pretty clear 2nd wave bm stuff
