this in their top 3 best tbh, fantastic atmosphere (2)

Yeah this and White Pony have the best atmospheres — also my two favorite Deftones albums.

wonder if people who were fans when it came out would attest to it even feeling weirdly under-the-radar upon release

I was a huge fan when it came out and it didn’t feel that way to me, I fucking fell in love with it immediately. But others mileage may vary.

i didn't mean so much did fans love or hate it, moreso if it was the kind of thing where people were going "oh shit, I didn't even know they had a new one out!"

Well, I was keeping tabs on the release date so it wasn’t that way for me personally.

i guess after SNW & Chi's unfortunate incident it just quickly became the semi-forgotten middle child that had come between their most critically/fan-acclaimed album & career-changing tragedy

either way it's kind of the hardest one to rank from me

depending on the day it could be my favorite of theirs or third least

Yeah it does seem to get lost in the shuffle/conversation quite a bit when people are discussing their albums. Which is a shame as it’s one of their best imo. People never talk about Hexagram, Battleaxe, Deathblow, Anniversary etc — all some of their best songs. I do see people mention When Girls Telephone Boys sometimes, usually when the heaviest Deftones songs are being discussed.

always been one of my favorite tones. w a different track order i might prefer it over pony (and adding lovers ofc), but the writing is still incredible on both

yeah, no matter where I rank this as an album, I pretty much always see it at the very least as a conduit for delivering some of their best tracks

I dare you to increase the rating from this album, once the next album is released cause everyone will start the "TeRrY DaTe Is ThE BoSs. SeLf TiTleD WaS DeFtOnEs OnE HoT mInUtE, MaN" bullshit.

Users here needs a band to release "a bad album" to give praise to an old criticized album that no one cares about. Just look tool's 10k days.

This with KNY are their best imo. Atmosphere on both are unreal, but this takes the edge for my fav Deftones cos it's heavier and has Minerva

This album just gives off a "vibe" that I can't quite explain. Maybe it's just that nostalgia for the early 2000s...

Definitely one of their best albums atmosphere wise.

I absolutely get that vibe. It's one of the main reasons I gave this the classic.

This is the underrated one. I feel like it's their heaviest album in many ways.

I’d describe this one as their darkest/dreariest album. Heaviest one is probably Around the Fur imo.
