@rowan yeah that's basically exactly why I'm listening to Blonde even though I didn't really expect to like it much
I think Blonde kinda genuinely sucks tbh. The better songs on it might have more impact if the whole album didn't have the same lull vibe.
Maybe I'll listen to it high af and it'll click but for now things just kinda float by without any real purpose to them. There's hardly even any percussion throughout the album

the lack of percussion is conspicuous but deliberate, I mean a lot of the best parts of CO had no percussion (Bad Religion, first half of Pink Matter) and I think he's chasing that ethereal vibe
