I can't make through that album for the life of me. Has some of his best material certainly, but at least 30min of music on that album seems wholly unneccessary.

I'm a bit scared to check this one tbh, considering Illinois didn't blow me away... I know they're different but so far I prefer quiet Sufjan

Well the favorite parts of this album for me are when he injects the moments of quiet beauty into all the cacophony, there's a lot of great dynamics on the tracks here, tho it is definitely very bombastic. I would recommend checking out Vesuvius or Age of Adz from this and see how you feel about it then

I'll check the whole thing soon most likely. Impossible Soul is the one I'm most scared of. I doubt I'll *hate* this, but I may not love it

Yeah, Vesuvius mixes his two styles, over the top extravagance and soft subtlety, the best on this album. Def check that track out if your unsure if you'll like louder Sufjan

I love listening to the entirety of Illinois

So many long car rides where I just put it on and let it play

I'd personally go with Lonesome Crowded West for car trips, but Illinois is great for that kind of thing too.

Thank you for the suggestions! I am encouraged by the fact that there is still some of his chill stuff here.

Impossible Soul is AMAZING imo, and can be listened to in chunks, and overall is not as bombastic as some of the crazier shit on here, it just happens to be 25 mins and has a lot of experimentation

I usually go with England Keep My Bones, Wide Awake It's Morning, or Bon Iver Bon Iver for car trips personally

I can see how Illinois would be good long drive listening.

One of my favorites for that (one of my favorites overall too) is Lucinda Williams' Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (notwithstanding the title, it's great driving music).

Yeah BoneyKing, Futile Devices is one of my favorite from him and is basically Carrie and Lowell esque

The other tracks on here might be a bit much at first, I know I was put off the first time, but they grow so hard
