As far as dm in general, Opeth is 100% responsible for getting me into the genre as a whole.

Death was another 100%. Morbid Angel, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, Suffocation, early Entombed was majority of what we were listening to. Opeth wasn't even a thought in my circle but those guys weren't around yet until after we graduated high school. No internet, no downloading, you either bought an album yourself or copied it from one of your boys that already had it. Local college pirate radio helped but it was only broadcasted at certain times. Good days though!
