Kevin Moore was far and away the best lyricist that’s ever been DT

^this is true. I never know what to make of his DT lyrics, but they sound like they mean something and that's good enough for me. Petrucci has his moments too, but he's pretty hit or miss.
"yeah listen to a pleasant shade of gray"
Will do.

Yeah a pleasant shade of gray and he's on Disconnected as well. APSOG is better imo but very dark and dense, so it might require some time to digest

Best clean vocals on any metal album, those operatic high notes are blissful

James once was one of the best metal singers of all time imo. Such a killer voice and so distinctive. He adds a lot of character to the band tbh, even if he fell of quite drastically

Ray struggles with the live show too. Thats what happens when you grow older.
Except if you were Ronnie James Dio.

i haven't watched any recent live footage but i wonder if he can still sing part of the machine or stuff from no exit, that's the real test

"Except if you were Ronnie James Dio."
I think Ronnie's voice was noticeably weaker but his technique was still impeccable and he was still a hell of a performer.
And yeah, James' vocals on this and Awake rule hard.

Hadn't listened to Take the Time in forever and immediately remembered why I loved it so much. I even remember most of Portnoy's fills haha, muscle memory is an amazing thing
