Heard this again today in my buddies car, forgot how much I listened to it when I first got it - instantly recognizable album.

Really? I only know like 4 german BM bands (Graveworm, Nagelfar, Nargaroth & Equilibium). Early Sodom was also Bm-ish but I'm not counting that for obvious reasons...

If you call Equilibrium Black Metal again I'm gonna bitchslap you. Also, there is a shitload of German BM, just not too known outside of Germany or bordering countries.

Ehm sorry I must have mistaken them with another band

Also, my media player had them under 'black metal' for some reason

Yeah, but the genre tags on music are mostly inaccurate. Also, if you wanna go for German BM: Nocte Obducta, Kermania, Verdunkeln, Aaskereia (duh), Brocken Moon, Sterbend, Todtgelichter, Eismalsott/Geist, Hagal, Imperium Dekadenz, Agrypnie (former NO vocalist's project), Grabnebelfürsten, Drautran, Lunar Aurora, Secrets Of The Moon (just to name a few)

"This I gotta see :P loved Sagas to death"
Meh, can't stand anything besides Turis Fratyr. There's just too much synthesizer/orchestrals in the foreground.

I can't believe I forgot about Brocken Moon and Aaskeria, they both released great albums in 2011

That's what I loved about it, been so content with it that I've not heard anything else they've done.

They're good but not that good.
@Tyr: You gotta check out older stuff, Mit Raben und Wölfen and das Märchen vom Schnee are quite nice.

Did not care for this album as much as their previous output.

The writing is just goofy. Lyrically it's ok, but that's not saying much, as the topic overall is just dumb imo. However, as having to do with Brann Dailor's healing process from his sister's suicide, I like that side of it, so points for that. but the lyrical side of blood mountain was pushing goofy, and this took it WAYYYY too far.

and it sounds like Brann Dailor forgot how to play drums. I understand they were wanting to make this more of a stoner feel, as opposed to jazzy metal, but it's too simplified. they went too far behind the basics.

Still, it's better than 95% of the junk out there, so it has that. It's not bad, it's a solid listen. I guess I just don't understand all of the praise this album has received, as opposed to their other stuff.

It was such a departure from his style prior to this. I definitely appreciate the fact that they were trying to do something different. But it almost felt forced to me. It just wasn't my favorite thing.
