i've found it kinda hard to get that excited over a new manics release (aside from Journal) since Send Away the Tigers, which was good but seemed to start the era of basically just apologizing for Lifeblood & KYE with every album, both of which i liked a lot

Yeah their later stuff hasn't been exactly engaging but then again Journal is the only thing I really cared about since this so it wasn't a huge change

Eh never thought they were good at britpop at all tbh, the Richey songs on the post-Holy Bible albums are classics but otherwise meh

You mean besides having some of the best lyrics I have ever listened to?

I don't really care for the lyrics that much tbh. This is boring for the most part, some coo songs tho, also the lyrics must be the only "depressing" thing about this album, the music doesn't sound depressing at all.

I had it 2.5'd at one point because of the pomposity, 6th form poetry padded out with the odd gem and the fact that back in the day this made 'emo' look like the Khymer Rouge but the fact remains that the magic is here hard.
Having invested some time in it its aged really well. Spose it says a lot about what's happend since but it's a document.

Big Mac, smack, Phoenix R, please smile y'all
Cuba, Mexico can't cauterize our discipline
Your idols speak so much of the abyss
Yet your morals only run as deep as the surface
Sheesh.
