I loved heritage I just wish it was a akerfeld side project because that's really what it is

MAYH. BWP is second, but I don't see why anyone would make a fuss saying that BWP is their best. Certainly feels like it

and my favourite Opeth song is from BWP as well

I mean... all of Opeth is Akerfeldt. He's the only original member and he's been the primary songwriter for basically the entire time.

i don't like heritage at all but i like that its under the opeth label. i like that it gained the band some new fans, and it shows how diverse they can be. opeth is and always has been mike's project, so he can do whatever he wants. i really hope he's chosen a different direction for the new one, but i will listen to it either way

Well I guess since the other main guys left it's been his band but he always said he had split all the guitar playing and stuff

50/50 with them

Peter Lindgren (or however you spell his name) used to write tonnes of stuff or at least help Mikael with the writing process. I think it's also a mutual agreement within the band that no one else writes music as good as Mikael too

mayh is way overrated on this site. sorry

MAYH is one of the few Opeth albums that isn't overrated on this site. sorry ;)

The last thing we need is more of Opeth tributing 70's prog. Go back to being Opeth...albeit without the growls.

Yeah lets hear Opeth going back to a sound they've done to death (minus growls) instead of a refreshing 70's influenced prog album that's actually better than pretty much every other throwback prog album and more interesting than a big chunk of their previous material!

Also just to clarify (not that I'm saying any of the related comments were aimed directly at me), I don't like MAYH the most cos its elite, I actually loved it the most long before I even knew what it meant to be 'elite'.

And anyway if I was an 'Opeth elitist' I doubt Heritage would be one of my favourite albums by them.

There's a pretty big difference between writing tonnes of stuff and helping out with the writing

process. Mikael and Peter split writing credits on the first 2 albums, but during the rest of his time

with the band (6 albums) Peter was credited on exactly 3 songs on 2 unique albums. He did write and

submit some stuff to Mikael near the end, but none of it was used. I think the only thing he really

had control over was his own solos.

Yeah, like compare solos of Heir Apparent (clearly not mikael's style) and The Leper Affinity

when i made my post about elitists i wasn't really referring to anyone actually being 'elite' or people that refer to themselves, or think of themselves as elite.

what i was really getting at was other users will buy into this sort of culture where you're "supposed" to like a certain album by a band more than others. people will say shit like "i like bwp the most but thats because i'm a pleb" bc they for some reason believe that liking mayh is the 'elite' opinion.

its just very weird to me. i mean, if you've only heard one of a band's albums or you've only heard a few or haven't heard all of them that much, than yeah you can call yourself a pleb bc you haven't really given them a chance yet. but what i described in the paragraph above is just a stupid thing to do
