OCHL is one of the messiest albums ever made. Just a complete clusterfuck of BS.

Yeah, I don't hear that. It's just New Bermuda with more straight shoegaze section and the odd piano.

It's my favorite of theirs. Apart from the opener it's perfect.

Calling OCHL as one of the messiest albums ever doesn’t make sense to me. It has many great moments, with Glint being a clear highlight in their whole discog.
But it’s nowhere near to this one, I’m not far for bumping it further up. It has been in rotation for months now and most of the mornings I wake up with one of them tunes in my head it’s crazy.

Yeah Ordinary rules. Glint is definitely among their best songs.
They don't have a remotely bad album, goated band tbh

OCHL is unbearable cornball shite that emphasises all the worst parts of their sound

OCHL is definitely weaker--not necessarily terrible, but weaker for sure. They set the bar so high for themselves and OCHL does not clear it. The last time I spun that record I didn't really have the desire to listen to it again.

I’m not big on OCHL as a whole either, but I really don’t see the point in thrashing it. I guess it all boils down to expectations, and with the bar being set too high. It reminds me of the reception of Machina by The Samsung Pumpkins.

Agreed, it's not so bad that it deserves to be berated, buuuut it really does not meet the Deafheaven standard like their other albums do.

I'm not berating it tbh. Just simply stating that I hate it lol.

I love OCHL. I think the opener is what really drives the hatred of the entire album for lots of people, although I personally love it. It also has the most plays on spotify, so I can't be the only one. But every other song on the album maintains the standard I've come to expect from this band. Near and Night People are better than any of their other intermissions too.
Back to this masterpiece tho... The marvelous orange tree ---- I cannot get enough of the tom hits in the chorus, and those soaring guitars.

ochl is their messiest but it's also got a perf 4-track run on there (tracks 2-5) that would've been a fantastic record in itself so tbh i just ignore the rest of the tracks heh

Saw Deafheaven live at the beginning of this week and the new stuff goes so hard. Magnolia in particular was absolutely massive.
